Hatchling Haven | African House Snake Enclosure | 14×12×10 | Escape-Proof | Bushveld Reptiles Collab
The enclosure African house snakes have always needed — and never had.
African house snakes are among the very best pet snakes in the hobby. They're hardy feeders, they stay a manageable size, and they have calm, curious temperaments that make them a pleasure to keep. Experienced keepers love them. Beginners thrive with them.
But ask any house snake owner about hatchlings, and they'll tell you the same thing: these little snakes are escape artists of the highest order. That small size — the very thing that makes them so appealing — means they can find a way out of almost any standard enclosure. A gap at the lid corner. A ventilation slot that's just a touch too wide. That's all it takes.
For years, there hasn't been a proper solution. Until now.
Born from tarantula engineering
We've spent years building enclosures for another notoriously escape-prone animal: tarantulas. Spiders that can squeeze through gaps you'd never even notice. Building for them forced us to develop an obsessive attention to closure design — every seam, every hinge point, every mesh gap engineered to give nothing away.
When we partnered with Warren Klein of Bushveld Reptiles — one of southern Africa's most respected reptile keepers — the question wasn't whether we could build a better house snake enclosure. It was how to take everything we'd learned keeping spiders in, and apply it to one of the hobby's most charming escape artists.
"We bring the security and quality of tarantula cribs to the reptile world."
Built for hatchlings from day one
The Hatchling Haven is the world's first enclosure purpose-designed for African house snake hatchlings. At 14" × 12" × 10", it's perfectly sized for a young house snake — not so large that they feel exposed, not so small that you'll need to upgrade immediately.
The sliding aluminum mesh lid is secured by dual magnets that hold with real force, closing flush with zero gap. There's no lifting, no wiggling, no working it loose — the closure simply doesn't give. The front clear viewing panel means you can observe your snake at any time without disturbing the enclosure, and the ventilation design prevents cross-drafts so you can maintain the warm, stable microclimate hatchlings need.
We've tested it with 25W heat lamp setup with Zilla Mini Dome as well as Zoo Med Nano Dome with a 25 watt lamp. As far as heat mats we used a and 4 watt heat matt .
Note: always use a thermostat and use heating elements at your own risk.

What makes a house snake great
If you're considering an African house snake, here's what draws keepers to them: they eat reliably — often from their very first feeding — they stay a compact, manageable size their whole lives, and they're genuinely curious and interactive animals. They're not just a great beginner snake. They're a great snake, full stop.
The only thing standing between most people and a house snake has been finding an enclosure worthy of them. Now there is one.
